Dr. Julie Harvie is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Leadership and Programme Leader for the Into Headship initiative at the University of Glasgow's School of Education. She is a key member of the National Design Group for educational leadership in Scotland and contributes to the Future of Headship research team. Her roles include Deputy of the Educational Leadership and Policy Research Group, Quality and Enhancement Officer, and Ethics Committee member. She has extensive experience as a Primary School Head Teacher and system-level educator in North Lanarkshire Council.
Research interests focus on educational leadership, interdisciplinary learning, and curriculum development. She has published widely on school leadership preparation, policy analysis, and professional learning programs like the Into Headship initiative. Her work bridges theory and practice, emphasizing leadership agency and systemic challenges.
Recent articles explore headteacher preparation, interdisciplinary practices in Glasgow schools, and leadership sustainability in Scotland. Her 2004 award from the General Teaching Council of Scotland recognizes her innovative contributions to enterprise in education.
