Professor Rosamond D. McKitterick is a distinguished academic in Medieval History at the University of Cambridge, where she has held the chair since 1999. She is a Professorial Fellow at Sidney Sussex College and has previously served as Vice-Principal at Newnham College (1996–1998). Her career spans over four decades, including roles as Lecturer (1985–1991) and Reader (1991–1997) at Cambridge, with earlier positions at Clare Hall and the University of Western Australia.

Her research focuses on European medieval history, particularly the interplay between religious, cultural, and social dynamics, literacy, and the transmission of ideas in the early Middle Ages. She has supervised 35 PhD students and contributed extensively to postgraduate education.
She has received numerous accolades, including fellowships from the Royal Historical Society, Royal Society of Arts, and the Medieval Academy of America. In 2010, she was awarded the prestigious Heineken Prize for History by the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences.
McKitterick has served on international evaluation committees, such as for the Austrian Academy of Sciences (2001–2002), the Max Planck Institute for History (2002–2005), and the German Union of Academies’ Germania Sacra project (2010). She has also been a member of the Panel of Assessors for the Royal Dutch Academy Research Professorships since 2008.
