Professor David Cannadine is a historian specializing in modern British history (1800–2000) at Princeton University, where he holds the Dodge Professor of History chair. He has held significant academic roles across institutions including the University of London, Columbia University, and Cambridge University, and served as Director of the Institute of Historical Research (1998–2003). He became President of the British Academy in 2017.

His research spans British aristocracy, urban power structures, class dynamics, and cultural/imperial ceremonial rituals. He is the editor of the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography.
