Ian Gadd is a Professor of English Literature at Bath Spa University, serving as Academic Director of the Global Academy of Liberal Arts (GALA) and Head of Development for European Projects. He leads the Making Books Research Centre and chairs the Bath Royal Literary and Scientific Institution. His research focuses on early modern English book history, bibliography, and the cultural history of London, with special emphasis on the Stationers' Company and Jonathan Swift's works.
He holds a D.Phil. from Oxford University (1999) and has held roles including Munby Fellow in Bibliography at Cambridge (1999-2000) and Research Editor for the Oxford Dictionary of National Biography (2000-2002). Awards include the 2014 Teacher of the Year Award and multiple research fellowships.
Current projects include co-editing volumes in the Cambridge Edition of Jonathan Swift's works and directing the Stationers' Register Online database. His work explores book production economics, textual editing practices, and the intersection of digital humanities with historical reading practices. Recent publications examine Oxford's book trade history and early modern guild dynamics.
