Dr. Paddy Bullard is an Associate Professor of English Literature and Book History at the University of Reading, jointly serving as Head of Department within the School of Humanities. His research focuses on 17th and 18th-century English literature, particularly satire, political philosophy, and the history of print culture, alongside rural studies including georgic poetry, traditional song, and environmental sustainability. He led the NERC-funded 'Futures of UK Treescapes' project (2024-25) and collaborates with the Museum of English Rural Life.
Key works include Satire, Instruction and Useful Knowledge in Eighteenth-Century Britain (2025) and Edmund Burke and the Art of Rhetoric (2011). He co-edits the Oxford Edition of the Works of Alexander Pope and contributes to the Cambridge Edition of the Works of Jonathan Swift. Awards include Fellowships from the HEA and RSA.
Publications span over 20 years, addressing topics like Enlightenment satire, environmental humanities, and digital humanities. Supervision focuses on 18th-century writing, book history, satire, and rural studies. Grants include NERC funding and AHRC fellowships. Collaborations extend to digital archives like the Jonathan Swift Archive and interdisciplinary projects with museums.
