Timothy Michael is an Associate Professor and Tutorial Fellow at Lincoln College, University of Oxford. He specializes in 18th-century and Romantic-period literature, with a focus on intersections between literature, philosophy, and political theory. His research explores how literary works critique political reason and address sociopolitical knowledge challenges.
Education: BA in English from New York University (2002), PhD from Harvard University (2009). Formerly a Harper-Schmidt Fellow at the University of Chicago (2009–2012).
Research interests include British Romanticism, Enlightenment-era philosophy, satirical literature, and the history of literary criticism. Current projects involve a study of literary-critical satire (1760–1830) and a scholarly edition of Alexander Pope's later prose with Dr. Paddy Bullard.
Teaching: Undergraduate courses on Romantic, Victorian, and Modern literature at Lincoln College, plus lectures on Romantic-era topics. Postgraduate supervision for MSt and DPhil students in 1700–1830 literature.
