Hugh Doherty is a Lecturer in Medieval History at the University of East Anglia, affiliated with the School of History and Art History. He holds a BA from King's College London, an MPhil from Cambridge under Rosamond McKitterick, and a DPhil from Oxford, where he studied twelfth-century Cumbria under Rees Davies. His research focuses on British and continental medieval history from Charlemagne to Innocent III, emphasizing early twelfth-century rulers, elites, and material culture. He co-led the AHRC-funded Writs and Charters of William II and Henry I project, working closely with Richard Sharpe.
