Nicholas Vincent is a Professor of Medieval History at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of History and Art History. He specializes in 12th-13th century English and European history, with expertise in Plantagenet kingship, Thomas Becket, relics, charters, and Magna Carta studies. Vincent has held visiting roles at Oxford, Cambridge, Poitiers, and the École des Chartes in Paris, and is a Fellow of the British Academy and Corresponding Fellow of the Medieval Academy of America.
His research includes editing Plantagenet royal charters, culminating in the 2020 publication of The Letters and Charters of Henry II. He co-leads projects on Richard of Cornwall and Magna Carta's legacy, including the discovery of a new original charter in 2015. Vincent teaches undergraduate courses in medieval British and European history and supervises graduate research on topics like medieval heresy, the Templars, and royal chancery systems.
Recent research outputs explore medieval urban networks, political authority, and generational dynamics at royal courts. His work bridges archival scholarship with public history, emphasizing international collaboration across over 300 archives globally.
