David Woodman is a Fellow of Robinson College and Affiliated Lecturer in the Faculty of History at the University of Cambridge. He holds the position of Senior Tutor at Robinson College and has served as Admissions Tutor and Senior Proctor. His academic career includes a British Academy Postdoctoral Research Fellowship and a Junior Research Fellowship at Robinson College. Woodman specializes in early medieval British history, with a focus on Anglo-Saxon charters, kingship, and historiography.
Education: BA, MPhil, and PhD in Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic from the University of Cambridge (Trinity College).
Research Interests: Woodman’s work centers on early medieval charters, tenth- and eleventh-century kingship, twelfth-century historiography, and the interplay between textual and material culture. He has published extensively on figures like Æthelstan and Edward the Confessor, and collaborates on projects related to Worcester’s historical archives.
Publications: Includes monographs such as Charters of Northern Houses (2012) and Edward the Confessor (2020), as well as edited volumes on medieval history and book chapters analyzing charters, chronicles, and diplomatic texts.
