Geoffrey Parker

Geoffrey Parker is a Distinguished University Professor and Andreas Dorpalen Professor of European History at The Ohio State University, affiliated with the Mershon Center for International Security. Born in Nottingham, England, he earned degrees from Cambridge University, including a BA (1965), PhD (1968), and Litt.D. (1981). His research focuses on early modern Europe, particularly Spain’s military and political history, environmental history, and global crises. Parker has authored over 40 books and 140 articles, including seminal works like The Military Revolution and The Global Crisis. His awards include the Heineken Prize for History and the Sullivant Medal. He has supervised 35 doctoral dissertations and lectures globally on topics like the Spanish Empire and climate-driven crises. His work bridges military, environmental, and diplomatic history, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches to understanding past and present challenges.
