Rosalind Segal serves as Dean for Graduate Education at Harvard Medical School (HMS) since 2019 and is a Professor of Neurobiology with dual appointments at HMS and Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Her leadership encompasses oversight of doctoral programs administered through Harvard Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and HMS-administered master's degree programs, with strategic priorities focused on student mentoring, diversity initiatives, and program cohesion.
Dr. Segal's research program bridges neuroscience and cancer biology, investigating growth-factor pathways critical for brain development and their hijacking in brain cancers and neurological disorders. Her laboratory at Dana-Farber has made seminal contributions to understanding Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) medulloblastoma pathogenesis, chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy mechanisms, and axon degeneration processes. Current work leverages CRISPR screening, single-cell RNA sequencing, and axonal translatome profiling to identify novel therapeutic targets.
Her publication record demonstrates sustained focus on two interconnected research trajectories: (1) SHH-driven medulloblastoma mechanisms including epigenetic regulation (DNMT1, EYA phosphatases) and developmental heterogeneity, and (2) Chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy involving BCL-w/IP3 receptor interactions, calcium signaling, and axonal protection strategies. Recent work increasingly integrates neuro-oncology with peripheral nervous system pathophysiology.

As an educator, Dr. Segal has mentored undergraduates, graduate students (including neuroscience PhD and MD-PhD candidates), medical students in the Peabody Society, and Harvard freshmen.
