Dr. Ros Williams is a Senior Lecturer in Digital Media and Society at the University of Sheffield's School of Sociological Studies, Politics and International Relations. She serves as Deputy Director of Research and Innovation and Associate Director of the ESRC Digital Good Network. Her work bridges Science and Technology Studies (STS), critical media studies, and sociologies of race/ethnicity and health. Williams holds a PhD from the University of York (2016) and previously taught at the University of Warwick.
Research focuses on racialized biomedical practices, digital health technologies, and health equity. Notable projects include Wellcome Trust-funded studies on stem cell donor recruitment inequities and ESRC-funded Digital Good Network initiatives. She co-edited Complicity: Methodologies of Power, Politics and the Ethics of Knowledge Production (2022) and serves on Wellcome Trust's Early Career Awards panel.
Her scholarship critically examines racialized health disparities, biobank practices, and digital health platform governance. Awards include a prestigious Wellcome Trust Research Fellowship (2019-2023) and multiple collaborative grants addressing health inequities. Williams co-leads the STeMiS research theme and is an executive member of the iHuman interdisciplinary institute.
