Rory D. Sellgren is an Assistant Professor of English at Cumberland University, affiliated with the Millard and JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. He transitioned to full-time faculty in 2022 after serving as an adjunct since 2019. His teaching focuses on English Composition I & II, Medieval Literature, and occasionally special topics in Dante studies.
Education: B.A. in English/Theology (Alvernia College, 2005); M.A. in New Testament Studies (Claremont School of Theology, 2009); M.A. in Medieval Studies (University of Leeds, 2010); Ph.D. in interdisciplinary medieval studies (University of Leeds, 2013).
Research interests include the intersection of St. Augustine's biblical hermeneutics and Dante's Commedia, medieval theological literature, and pedagogical approaches to interdisciplinary humanities. His work emphasizes tracing Christological themes in Dante's epic poem through Augustinian interpretive frameworks.
Teaching history includes adjunct roles at Alvernia University and Albright College (Reading, PA), where he taught theology and composition courses. Outside academia, he maintains passions for LEGO collecting, choir singing, and unfinished Dante research projects.
