Dr. George Walker is a Professor of Health, Physical Education, and Athletic Coaching at Cumberland University, affiliated with the Millard and JJ Oakley School of Humanities, Education and the Arts. He joined the university in 2003 after serving as an elementary/middle school principal in Jackson County and accumulating extensive experience as a K-12 physical education teacher and football coach. His educational background includes a B.S., M.A., and Ed.S. from Tennessee Technological University, and a D.A. in Physical Education from Middle Tennessee State University.
His research focuses on physical education, adaptive physical activity, healthy play, and the relationship between physical fitness and academic performance. He also serves as Director of Tennessee Special Olympics for Area 27 in Wilson County.
Awardees include honors from the Tennessee State Department of Education, Tennessee Academy for School Leaders, and the Tennessee Army National Guard’s Bee Like Me Program.
