Ronald Slye is a Professor of Law at Seattle University's School of Law, specializing in international criminal law, human rights, and transitional justice. He previously served as Director of the Law School's International and Comparative Programs, the Center for Global Justice, and the Global Justice in South Africa summer program. His expertise includes truth commissions, amnesty processes, and legal frameworks for post-conflict societies.
Education: B.A. from Columbia University (1984), M.Phil. from the University of Cambridge (1985), and J.D. from Yale Law School (1989). He held roles at Yale’s clinical program and the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission.
Research focuses on balancing legal security and justice in transitional societies, with notable work on Kenya’s Truth, Justice and Reconciliation Commission (2009–2013), Cambodia’s legal challenges, and South Africa’s post-apartheid processes. His publications include International Criminal Law: Intersections and Contradictions (2021) and The Kenyan TJRC: An Outsider's View from the Inside (2018).
Advisory roles include the Documentation Center of Cambodia and the Law and Peace Practice Group. His articles analyze amnesty legitimacy, corporate liability in international law, and the role of truth commissions in fostering reconciliation.
