Ronald Sadoff is an Associate Professor of Music and Music Education at New York University's Steinhardt School, and Director/Founder of NYU's Screen Scoring programs. He pioneered curriculum development for BM, MM, and PhD degrees in Screen Scoring, and led departmental initiatives as Chair of Music and Performing Arts Professions (2014–2019). His work includes strategic partnerships with NYU Tisch's film programs, NYU Paris/Prague campuses, and collaborations with institutions like IRCAM and École Normale Cortot.
As a composer, Sadoff has scored Academy Award-winning films (e.g., The Moon and The Son) and Emmy-nominated documentaries (e.g., Daughters of the Troubles). His music appears in CNN's Obama Revealed and public radio broadcasts like What's On Your Mind?. He co-founded the NYU/ASCAP Film Scoring Workshop with Buddy Baker, now a cornerstone for industry training.
Research interests include film music pedagogy, post-production practices, and digital media sound design. He co-edits the Music and the Moving Image journal and authored influential articles on music editing roles and collaborative modalities in digital scoring. His work bridges academic scholarship and industry practice through conferences, publications, and interdisciplinary collaborations.
Notable contributions include co-editing The Routledge Companion to Screen Music and Sound (2017) and serving on advisory boards for the World Soundtrack Awards. Sadoff’s legacy spans film composition, education innovation, and fostering global networks in screen music through NYU’s expanding LA programs and international initiatives.
