Phil Galdston is a distinguished Music Professor of Songwriting and Director of Songwriting at NYU Steinhardt. He holds dual roles as a faculty member and the first Songwriter-in-Residence in NYU’s history. His professional career spans songwriting, producing, music publishing, film/TV composing, and leadership in industry organizations like The Recording Academy and ASCAP. He teaches courses such as Production for Producers and Production for Songwriters, emphasizing creative and technical mastery in music production.
His research interests focus on advancing songwriting techniques and the intersection of artistic vision with commercial success. He curates prestigious events like WORDS & MUSIC (conversations with leading songwriters) and Steinhardt’s FRIDAY@1 series, fostering dialogue with musical luminaries.
Award-winning, Galdston’s work has garnered over 20 GRAMMY nominations or awards across recordings. His accolades include the NYU Teaching Excellence Award and the Time For Peace Award. He co-founded MusicAnswers, a platform advocating for creators’ rights, and initiated innovative educational programs at NYU.
