Ronald C. Ydenberg is a Professor and Director of the Centre for Wild Species and Ecosystems (CWE) in the Department of Biological Sciences at Simon Fraser University. His research focuses on behavioral ecology, particularly in avian and migratory species, with notable projects on seabirds, sandpipers, and muskrat population dynamics. He holds a BSc from SFU and a DPhil from Oxford University.
Research interests include predator-prey interactions, migration strategies, nutrient subsidies from salmon, and invasive species management. His work integrates field studies with theoretical models, often collaborating with students and international colleagues. Recent studies address shifts in migratory bird stopover sites due to predation risks and the ecological impacts of salmon-derived nutrients on plant communities.
Publications highlight contributions to understanding peregrine falcon recovery effects on sandpipers, muskrat control efficacy, and genetic fragmentation in red deer populations. His interdisciplinary approach spans conservation biology, population dynamics, and behavioral adaptations. Current teaching includes BISC 102 D100 General Biology in Fall 2025.
