معرفی
Prof Will Cresswell is a Professor in the School of Biology at the University of St Andrews, with affiliations to the Centre for Biological Diversity and the Institute of Behavioural and Neural Sciences. His research focuses on behavioral ecology (predation risk management in birds and predator-prey dynamics) and conservation ecology (migratory bird decline mechanisms and African habitat strategies). He leads projects in West Africa, collaborating with the AP Leventis Ornithological Research Institute (APLORI).
Key research themes include:
- Non-lethal predation effects on bird fitness
- Migratory connectivity and habitat use
- Forest fragmentation impacts on tropical birds
- Human-wildlife interaction in open ecosystems
Recent publications highlight migratory behavior patterns, agricultural deforestation effects, and bird atlas contributions to conservation strategies. His work emphasizes avian migration dynamics and conservation planning for endangered species.
Scientific awards include the British Ornithologists Union Ibis Award (2003), Marsh Award for Ornithology (2017), and a Teaching Excellence Award (2017). He has led grants on bird population processes and participated in international conferences, including the 2022 International Ornithological Congress.
His lab collaborates globally, focusing on West African ecosystems and Palearctic migrant species. Activities include outreach programs for schools and policy advisory roles in ornithology.
