Jenny Gill is a Professor of Applied Ecology at the University of East Anglia (UEA), affiliated with the School of Biological Sciences. She holds memberships in the Centre for Ecology, Evolution and Conservation, Organisms and the Environment, and ClimateUEA. Her career includes roles as Director of the MSc in Applied Ecology and Conservation, and co-ordinator of CEEC Rebellion. She has held academic positions since 1994, progressing from Research Associate to her current professorship.
Dr. Gill earned a BSc in Zoology from the University of Edinburgh (1990) and a PhD in Population Ecology from UEA (1994). Her research focuses on migratory systems, climate change impacts, and conservation strategies for shorebirds like the Icelandic black-tailed godwit. Key projects include studying population dynamics, habitat connectivity, and the effects of environmental changes on biodiversity.
Her recent publications emphasize avian population synchrony, migratory connectivity, and conservation strategies for threatened species. She has received prestigious awards, including the Marsh Award for Ornithology (2010) and the Union Medal of the British Ornithologists' Union (2017). Active in editorial roles, she serves as Editor-in-Chief of Ibis and has led collaborations with institutions like the RSPB and British Trust for Ornithology.
Gill oversees 22 research projects funded by bodies such as NERC and the Ministry of Defence, focusing on curlew conservation and climate-driven habitat management. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly environmental protection and biodiversity preservation.
