Ronald C. Cohen is a Professor of Chemistry and Earth and Planetary Science at the University of California at Berkeley. He has been a Faculty Scientist in the Energy and Environment Technologies Division at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (LBNL) since 1996 and served as a Visiting Professor at the Max Planck Institute for Chemistry in 2006-2007.
- Education: BA from Wesleyan University (1985), PhD from UC Berkeley (1991) under Richard Saykally
- Postdoctoral: Harvard University (1991-1996) with James G. Anderson
Research Focus: Atmospheric chemistry, including nitrogen oxides dynamics, water isotopes, and biosphere-atmosphere interactions. Combines experimental measurements (laboratory, ground-based, airborne, space-based) with modeling to study chemical residence times, oxidant impacts, and hydrologic cycles.
Key Contributions: Development of advanced instrumentation for atmospheric chemical detection. Editor of the open-access journal Atmospheric Chemistry and Physics.
- Scientific Awards: NASA Group Achievement Award (2005, 1998), Hellman Family Faculty Fund (1999), Regents Junior Faculty Fellowship (1998)
