Ronald Asiimwe, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the Couple & Family Therapy Specialization at the University of Minnesota. Originally from Uganda, he moved to the U.S. in 2016 and holds degrees from Makerere University (BA), Oklahoma Baptist University (MS), and Michigan State University (PhD). His research focuses on culturally responsive systemic interventions for African families, trauma-informed approaches, and community-based participatory research (CBPR). He pioneers emotionally focused therapy (EFT) training in Uganda and Kenya while examining parenting practices among African immigrant communities in Minnesota and Uganda.
Dr. Asiimwe's work integrates liberation psychology and cultural ecological frameworks to address systemic barriers to mental and relational well-being. He emphasizes culturally adapted therapies that honor African family systems while addressing historical and current trauma. Clinical expertise includes attachment-focused family therapy, narrative therapy, and trauma-informed practices.
