Ron Prinz is a Carolina Distinguished Professor of Psychology at the University of South Carolina’s McCausland College of Arts and Sciences. He also serves as Co-Director of the Research Center for Child Well-Being (RCCWB), established in 2020 under an NIH/NIGMS COBRE grant. His work focuses on prevention science, child well-being, and behavioral health. Dr. Prinz co-founded the Clinical Child and Family Psychology Review journal and served as its Co-Editor-in-Chief until 2023.
Education: BA in Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley; PhD in Clinical Psychology from Stony Brook University.
Research interests include parenting interventions, prevention of child maltreatment, and addressing health disparities through a population-level approach. The RCCWB unites prevention efforts in social-emotional health and healthy lifestyle behaviors for children aged 2–10.
Key grants include leadership of the NIH T32 Behavioral-Biomedical Interface Program, training students in epidemiology, exercise science, and psychology. His articles emphasize scalable interventions, health equity frameworks, and cost-effective solutions for vulnerable families.
Labs/Teams: Research Center for Child Well-Being (RCCWB), collaborating with Co-Director Dr. Michael Beets. His work integrates clinical practice with public health strategies to reduce behavioral and lifestyle risks in children.
