Romy Neumark is a CJS Fellow and Teaching Assistant in the Department of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations within Harvard University's Faculty of Arts & Sciences. She serves as the Modern Hebrew Language and Media Teaching Assistant at Harvard's Center for Jewish Studies, bringing her extensive background in Israeli journalism to her academic role.
Neumark's research and teaching focus on the intersection of Hebrew language education and media studies. Her expertise encompasses documentary filmmaking, journalistic writing, and modern Hebrew culture. She has conducted significant research on diversity-focused journalism training programs in Israel, examining how media can promote social change. Her innovative approach leverages the power of news to advocate for gender equality, diversity, and inclusivity through creative uses of the Hebrew language.
Among her notable recognitions is the prestigious Nieman Fellowship at Harvard in 2023, which paved the way for her academic career. She also served as the Gerard Weinstock Visiting Lecturer and Fellow at Harvard's Center for Jewish Studies during the 2023-2024 academic year.
With over two decades of professional experience in Israeli journalism, Neumark previously served as a senior anchor at KAN, Israel's public broadcasting media outlet. She created and hosted the daily "Night News" television program and a weekly radio interview show. Her industry background includes reporting for Channel 10 News, Galei Tzahal radio station, and the digital version of Ma'ariv newspaper. At KAN, she led a peer mentoring initiative focused on fostering excellence and professional growth among journalists while promoting inclusivity in newsrooms.
