Dr. Dirk Sadowski is a Researcher at the Georg Eckert Institute for International Textbook Research, where he has worked since 2010. He serves as Scientific Coordinator of the German-Israeli Textbook Commission, focusing on cross-cultural educational media analysis. A graduate of Humboldt University, Free University of Berlin, and Hebrew University of Jerusalem, he earned his doctorate in 2008 from the University of Leipzig for his work on Jewish education during the Enlightenment.
His research interests center on the representation of Jews and Judaism in educational media, Jewish Enlightenment (Haskalah) pedagogy, Jewish life in the early modern period, and Hebrew printing history from the 15th–18th centuries. He also examines Israel’s societal representation and the Middle East conflict in textbooks.
Recent publications highlight Christian-Jewish relations in religious education, state regulation of Jewish languages under the Habsburg Empire, and policy frameworks for multicultural education in Germany and Israel. His 2023–2025 projects include analyzing antisemitism in media and promoting Jewish everyday culture communication.
Dirk actively engages in public pedagogical events, including training for textbook editors and lectures on Israel representation in curricula. His collaborative efforts span institutions like the Simon Dubnow Institute and Friedrich Ebert Foundation.
