Dr. Roman Gerodimos is a Professor of Global Current Affairs at Bournemouth University’s Faculty of Media and Communication. With a background in Political Science and International Studies, he holds an MSc from the LSE and a PhD from Bournemouth University. His interdisciplinary work bridges politics, sociology, psychology, and media studies, focusing on civic engagement, media literacy, and global governance.
Key roles include Impact Champion for BU’s REF UoA34 submission (2019–), Global Engagement Lead (2016–18), and faculty lead at the Salzburg Academy on Media & Global Change (2010–2024). His research explores shame/violence dynamics, psychosocial reconciliation, and the role of art/media in well-being.
Research Interests: His current work addresses shame/violence theory, emerging civic engagement drivers, and digital technologies’ impact on presence. Notable publications include *Interdisciplinary Applications of Shame/Violence Theory* (2022) and *Dispatches from the 21st Century* (2020), recognized as Greece’s best non-fiction book of 2020.
Awards: Arthur McDougall Prize (2011), multiple teaching awards, and film accolades including Best Shorts Competition (2024) and Impact DOCS Awards (2020).
