Roland Stimson

Professor Roland Stimson is a Scottish Senior Clinical Academic Fellow at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on obesity, metabolic disease, and the regulation of brown adipose tissue as a therapeutic target.

Research Interests: He investigates mechanisms to safely increase energy expenditure via brown adipose tissue, glucocorticoid action in metabolic disease, and species-specific differences in adipose regulation. Techniques include human experimental medicine (PET, microdialysis), cell culture, and transgenic murine models.

Collaborations & Projects: Key projects include substrate utilisation by human brown adipose tissue (Cell Metab 2018), novel regulators of brown adipose function (Nat Metab 2023), and comparative studies on species-specific regulation (Cell Metab 2016). His team collaborates with the Biomarker Lab and Mass Spectrometry Core Facility.
