Francisco Verdeguer is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Molecular Mechanisms of Disease, University of Zurich. His research focuses on the interplay between metabolism and epigenetic regulation, particularly in the context of obesity, energy expenditure, and thermogenesis. He holds a PhD from the Pasteur Institute in Paris and completed postdoctoral training at Harvard Medical School and the Karolinska Institute, supported by an EMBO fellowship.
- Education: Biology (University of Valencia), PhD in Molecular Biology (Pasteur Institute)
- Key Research Areas: Chromatin regulation, metabolic signaling, adipose tissue biology, YY1 transcription factor
His lab investigates how metabolic states influence chromatin dynamics and gene expression, with a focus on brown adipose tissue and systemic energy balance. Notable findings include the role of YY1 in metabolic pathways and the therapeutic potential of bromodomain inhibitors in mitochondrial diseases.
Supervised students include PhD candidates Zyanya Karina Diaz Hirashi and Tian Gao. His work has been published in Nature Metabolism, Cell Metabolism, and Molecular Cell.
