Dr. Mark Nixon is a BHF Intermediate Research Fellow at the Centre for Cardiovascular Science, University of Edinburgh. His research focuses on the role of glucocorticoid metabolism in adipose tissue and its impact on cardiovascular disease risk, obesity, and diabetes. He leads the Mark Nixon Research Group, which utilizes pre-clinical murine models and translational studies to explore therapeutic targets in glucocorticoid biology.

His work examines the corticosteroid-binding globulin (CBG) locus, SIK1 regulation of glucose homeostasis, and ABCC1 transporter mechanisms in adipose tissue. Collaborations include international experts from institutions like the University of British Columbia, Leiden University, and Erasmus MC.
