Roland Melia

Roland Melia is a Conductor and Lower Strings Tutor at the Guildhall Young Artists Taunton. He holds roles as Music Director of White Horse Opera and previously served as Artistic Director of the Leicester Symphony Orchestra. He teaches conducting at Oxford and Cambridge Universities and delivers workshops globally, including for Pro Corda, Antigua and Barbuda Youth Symphony Orchestra, and institutions like Eton College.

Education & Training:

• Studied conducting with Ilya Musin (Russia), Charles Bruck (France), and David Robertson (USA)

Research & Practice: Specializes in orchestral conducting techniques, music education, and cross-genre collaborations. Known for chamber music performances with ensembles like Lontano and the Chris Wood Trio. Active in promoting youth music through initiatives such as the Cypriot National Youth Orchestra and UN-supported bi-communal youth programs.
