Rogier Creemers is Assistant Professor of Modern Chinese Studies at Leiden University, focusing on China's digital technology policy and global cybersecurity governance. As principal investigator of the NWO Vidi project 'The Smart State: Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and the Law in China', he examines legal and policy frameworks for emerging technologies. He directs a Leiden Asia Centre project on China's role in global cybersecurity funded by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Creemers co-founded DigiChina, a collaborative initiative with Stanford University and New America analyzing Chinese digital policy developments. His research addresses China's evolving regulatory approaches to AI, data governance, and platform economics within global digital ecosystems.
