Rogier Creemers

Rogier Creemers is an Assistant Professor in Chinese Studies at Leiden University's Humanities Institute for Area Studies. His research focuses on Chinese digital technology policy, cybersecurity, and the intersection of big data, artificial intelligence, and law in China. He leads the NWO Vidi Project "The Smart State: Big Data, Artificial Intelligence and the Law in China" and directs a Dutch Ministry-funded project on China and global cybersecurity for the Leiden Asia Centre. He co-founded DigiChina, a collaborative initiative with Stanford University and New America.

Creemers holds a PhD in Law and has a background in Sinology and International Relations. His work bridges academia and policy, with notable media engagements including features in The Economist and Times Higher Education. He advises on China's digital governance and cybersecurity policies, emphasizing systemic vulnerabilities and policy implications.
