معرفی
Roger Davies is a Professor of Astrophysics at the University of Oxford and a Fellow of Christ Church College. He has held prominent leadership roles, including Director of the Oxford Hintze Centre for Astrophysical Surveys (2014–present), Head of Astrophysics (2011–2014, 2004–2005), and Head of the Physics Department (2005–2010). His academic career spans institutions like the University of Durham, where he was Professor & Head of Astronomy (1994–2002), and the National Optical Astronomy Observatories in Tucson (1982–1988).
- Research Focus: Galaxy Evolution (stellar populations, dynamics, early-type galaxies), Cosmology (distance scale, large-scale galaxy motions), and Astronomical Instrumentation (integral field spectrographs, large telescopes like Gemini).
- Leadership: Spearheaded projects like the SAURON survey (awarded a RAS Group Achievement Award in 2013) and served as UK Project Scientist for the Gemini Telescopes (1988–1994).
Awards: Includes the Royal Society Wolfson Merit Award (2006), Fellowship at University College London (2009), and election as a Member of the Academy of Europe (2020).
His work bridges observational astronomy and theoretical cosmology, with significant contributions to galactic structure and instrumentation for large-scale surveys.
