Rodney Chism is an Assistant Professor of Music and Director of Bands at Kentucky State University, where he oversees the Mighty Marching Thorobreds. As an educator, composer, saxophonist, and clinician, he has spent over two decades shaping instrumental music programs and fostering leadership within Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs).

His publications highlight trends in HBCU music education, emphasizing cultural preservation and the societal impact of band programs. As a composer and arranger, he has written over 150 works across multiple genres, including the award-winning jazz composition The Plaza (2025).
