Robin LeBlanc is the William Lyne Wilson Professor of Political Economy and a Professor of Politics at Washington and Lee University's Williams School. She earned a B.A. in English from Berry College and a Ph.D. in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma. Her research employs ethnographic methods to explore grassroots democracy, gender politics, and community dynamics across cultural contexts including Japan and Italy.
Research Focus: LeBlanc investigates power dynamics in modern democracies through comparative political ethnography, examining themes of gender identity, social movements, and urban space. Her scholarship challenges Western theoretical frameworks through deep engagement with Japanese political culture.
Publications and Recognition: Her publications analyze diverse subjects from high-rise living in Tokyo to postgrowth communities. She has received three Fulbright Research Fellowships, a Japan Society for the Promotion of Science fellowship, and the William Lyne Wilson Professorship. LeBlanc authored "Bicycle Citizens" and "The Art of the Gut," and co-authored the textbook "Comparative Politics."
Academic Service: She has headed the Women's, Gender, and Sexuality Studies program multiple times, demonstrating commitment to interdisciplinary scholarship. Her work bridges political theory with practical community engagement.
