Professor Roberto Cipolla is a Fellow and College Lecturer at Jesus College, University of Cambridge, where he serves as the Professor of Information Engineering in the Department of Engineering. He also directs Toshiba’s Cambridge Research Laboratory.

His research focuses on computer vision and robotics, with specific interests in:
- Recovery of 3D shape from image sequences
- Object detection, recognition, and segmentation
- Novel human-machine interfaces (hand, face, body gestures)
- Visual guidance of autonomous systems (localization, self-driving cars)
- Applications of computer vision on mobile phones for AR, e-commerce, and healthcare
He has authored two books, co-authored over 400 papers, and edited 12 volumes in his fields.
Scientific honors include:
