Robert Poynton serves as an Associate Fellow (mapped to Research Fellow) at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford, where he designs and leads Executive Education leadership programmes using participative improvisational theatre methods to create experiential learning environments for complexity and change management.
His academic foundation includes undergraduate studies in psychology and philosophy at New College, Oxford.
Poynton's research centers on embodied leadership development through improvisation, narrative techniques for communication, and time-conscious practices addressing burnout. His methodology explores organizational behavior in volatile environments while examining conversational complexity and stress management. This work manifests in publications like "Everything's an Offer" and "Do Improvise" on applied improvisation, "Do Pause" on temporal relationships, and "Do Conversation" on dialogue dynamics.
With continuous involvement since 2002 in Oxford's Strategic Leadership Programme (serving as Programme Director in 2018), he has advised major organizations including Chanel, BBC, and PwC while co-founding Yellow in 2020 to develop regenerative learning spaces through creative retreats in Spain.
