Atif Ansar is a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Oxford's Saïd Business School, specializing in Major Programme Management. He serves as the Founding Director of the Oxford Programme on the Sustainable Future of Capital-Intensive Industries at the Smith School of Enterprise and the Environment. His academic journey includes a DPhil (PhD) from Brasenose College (2006–2010), supported by the Clarendon Scholarship, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at the BT Centre for Major Programme Management. He has held visiting roles at Stanford University’s Global Projects Center and Tsinghua University.
His research focuses on optimizing infrastructure and real estate programs, addressing challenges like cost overruns, environmental impact, and governance. Notable areas include megaprojects in China, hydropower dams, and strategic decision-making under uncertainty. He has advised governments and organizations globally, including the World Bank and UK Government, on infrastructure, public investment, and project finance.
Teaching responsibilities include the MSc in Major Programme Management and executive programs like the Australian Major Projects Leadership Academy (AMPLA). His work bridges academia and industry, emphasizing end-user-centric design and sustainable outcomes. Media engagements include features in The New Yorker, The New York Times, and BBC World Service.
Professional roles outside academia include Executive Chairman of Foresight Works, a technology firm developing tools for megaproject management. His contributions span over 20 peer-reviewed articles and policy reports, addressing topics from fake news to nuclear energy risks. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service.
