Robert Mayer is a Professor in the Core Division at Champlain College, where he has taught since 2000. He holds a BA and PhD in History from the University of Georgia and an MA in Foreign Affairs from the University of Virginia. His expertise spans military and security studies, antebellum America, modern American history, pop culture, and international affairs. Mayer has worked in defense intelligence, journalism (focusing on computer entertainment), and academic roles, including contributions to the Papers of James K. Polk. He currently resides in Jericho, Vermont, and has been recognized with the Finney Chair distinction from 2020 to 2023.
His research interests include race and slavery, video game design/marketing, and interdisciplinary curriculum development. Beyond academia, he has engaged in freelance work supporting video game promotion and maintains affiliations with Champlain’s academic leadership.
