Robert Lehnhard is a Professor of Education and Director of the School of Kinesiology, Physical Education and Athletic Training at the University of Maine's College of Education and Human Development. He has been on faculty since 1986 and previously served as the University's Strength and Conditioning Coach (1986-1993). His research focuses on applied exercise physiology, metabolism, and cardiovascular systems using both human and animal models.
- Education:
- Ph.D., The Ohio State University (Ohio)
- B.A.S., Southern Methodist University (Texas)
His research interests emphasize field-based studies exploring metabolic adaptations during exercise, cardiovascular responses in athletic populations, and translational physiology across species. Current work examines nutritional interventions (e.g., wild blueberries) on exercise-induced physiological stress and biomarker responses. He maintains an active teaching portfolio in advanced kinesiology topics including exercise physiology, biomechanics, and sports nutrition.
Publications highlight his interdisciplinary approach, spanning pediatric populations with ADHD/asthma to elite athletes and animal models like horses. His work frequently appears in journals addressing pediatric exercise science, sports medicine, and comparative physiology.
Lehnhard's career reflects a commitment to bridging theoretical research with practical applications in athletic training and public health initiatives.
