Kelsey A. Conrad serves as Lecturer in Exercise & Sport Studies at Smith College, where she maintains an office in Scott Gym 401. As a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist with clinical and research expertise, she bridges nutritional science with athletic performance and health.
Education:
- Ph.D. in Pathobiology and Molecular Medicine, University of Cincinnati
- M.S. in Medical Dietetics with Dietetic Internship, The Ohio State University
- B.S., Miami University
Her research centers on female athlete health, specifically the Female Athlete Triad and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S), examining how nutritional deficits impact physiological systems. This work intersects with her publications on cardiovascular pathologies, gut microbiome interactions, and metabolic disease mechanisms, revealing how dietary components like choline and gut-derived metabolites influence conditions ranging from aortic aneurysms to liver cancer. Her molecular approach connects exercise physiology with clinical nutrition through mouse model studies.
Her four publications (2018-2023) demonstrate consistent focus on nutrition-pathology interfaces, particularly how dietary factors modulate inflammatory pathways in cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. The recurring use of murine models across papers highlights methodological continuity in investigating molecular mechanisms.
Conrad teaches core courses including anatomy and physiology, exercise physiology, and nutrition, directly applying her research on energy deficiency syndromes in athletes to classroom instruction. Her position as a credentialed dietitian informs both pedagogical and research approaches within Smith College's Exercise & Sport Studies program.
