Robert Jacobsen is a Teaching Assistant Professor at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, in the Department of Earth, Environmental & Planetary Sciences. He specializes in planetary geology education and geoscience pedagogy, teaching courses like EEPS 101: The Dynamic Earth and EEPS 104: Exploring the Planets. Jacobsen also serves as UT Institutional Leader for the Center for the Integration of Research, Teaching, & Learning, leading STEM teaching programs for graduate students and postdocs. He is Assistant Director of the Tennessee Space Grant Consortium, coordinating undergraduate research funding and K-12 STEM outreach initiatives.
He holds a PhD (2016) and BA (2010) from the University of Tennessee and Colorado College, respectively. His research focuses on Martian fluvial systems, planetary geological mapping, and evidence-based teaching practices. Notable contributions include the Geologic Map of the Aeolis Dorsa Region, Mars (2021) and studies on Martian paleohydrology. Jacobsen has received awards like the 2022 Outstanding Faculty Award and led funded projects such as University of Tennessee Space Outreach Activities in East Tennessee.
