Robert Heinsch serves as Associate Professor of Public International Law at Leiden University's Grotius Centre for International Legal Studies, where he has been employed since March 1, 2009. He initially joined as an Assistant Professor before his promotion to Associate Professor in April 2013. He also directs the Kalshoven-Gieskes Forum on International Humanitarian Law, demonstrating his leadership in specialized legal research.
His research interests encompass International Criminal Law, International Humanitarian Law, International Institutional Law, and Public International Law, with particular attention to practical applications within international legal frameworks. His work bridges theoretical legal principles with real-world implementation in international tribunals and institutions.
His scholarly contributions include significant work on legal maxims and case law analysis, particularly in international criminal proceedings. His publication in The Global Community Yearbook of International Law and Jurisprudence 2014: Volume I demonstrates his expertise in synthesizing complex legal decisions from international tribunals including the ICC, reflecting current trends in international legal interpretation and application.
Dr. Heinsch holds a Ph.D. from the University of Cologne and has established himself as a respected voice in international legal scholarship through his methodical analysis of international tribunal decisions and contributions to legal education at one of Europe's premier law faculties.
