Professor Robert Gilbert, affiliated with the University of Oxford's Structural Biology department in the Henry Wellcome Building of Genomic Medicine, is a leading researcher in molecular biophysics focusing on cancer mechanisms and membrane pore formation. His work spans structural analysis of proteins involved in immunity and pathogenesis, with translational collaborations at the Target Discovery Institute and Cancer Research Technology.
Research highlights include studies on miRNA maturation via 3' uridylylation, mechanisms of MACPF/CDC pore-forming proteins, and Hedgehog signaling inhibition by HHIP. His group employs cryo-EM and molecular dynamics simulations to elucidate critical biological processes.
Recent publications (2022-2024) emphasize structural and functional insights into perforin-like proteins, DNA replication complexes, and modular protein assemblies. Funding from Cancer Research UK, British Heart Foundation, MRC, BBSRC, and Wellcome Trust supports his investigations into membrane biology and cancer-related RNA processing.
