Robert Garcia is an Associate Professor in the Department of Philosophy at Baylor University's College of Arts & Sciences. His research focuses on analytic metaphysics (particularly theories of objects and properties) and philosophy of religion (examining God's relationship to creation and the problem of evil). Garcia holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and has published extensively on trope theory, bundle theories, and C.S. Lewis's philosophical theology.
His research explores ontological questions about property instantiation, divine sustenance, and personal uniqueness. Garcia's articles demonstrate sustained engagement with metaphysical frameworks for understanding creaturely properties in a theistic context, frequently analyzing how divine action interacts with created reality. His recent work investigates Lewis's conception of personhood and its implications for ethics and metaphysics.
Garcia has received notable recognition including the Alabama State Arts Fellowship, Kaneb Teaching Fellowship, and Sappi Ideas That Matter grant. He actively mentors graduate students, having supervised over 10 PhD candidates on topics ranging from substance dualism to virtue epistemology. His research has been supported by the John Templeton Foundation and featured in international conferences across Europe and Latin America.
