Robert Connolly is a Lecturer in Sculpture at the Belfast School of Art, Faculty of Arts, Humanities & Social Sciences, Ulster University. He is affiliated with the Research Institute of Art & Design and works as a multi-disciplinary artist focused on 'place' and contextual art.

Connolly’s research explores sculpture, performance art, and installation art through themes of environmental context, community interaction, and ephemeral structures. His works often blend physical materials with conceptual frameworks, emphasizing audience participation and site-specific narratives.
His recent publications (2018–2019) include performances and installations like 'Time Tables' and Market Stall Performance, engaging with climate change, urban heritage, and interdisciplinary collaboration. These works highlight his interest in merging sculptural forms with live art practices.
Connolly actively organizes events such as the Belfast International Festival of Performance Art (2019–2020) and contributes to artist-run networks in Ireland. He has served as an external examiner for PhD researchers, demonstrating his role in academic mentorship.
