Robert Andrews

Robert Andrews is an Honorary Associate Professor at The Australian National University (ANU), affiliated with the Department of Cancer Biology and Therapeutics within the John Curtin School of Medical Research. He holds a PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Queensland (1986). His research focuses on mechanisms of human disease involving haematological systems, particularly thrombosis, coagulation, and platelet biology. Key areas include platelet receptor expression, metalloproteinase-mediated shedding, myeloproliferative disorders, and immune thrombocytopenia.

He has published over 220 papers, including high-impact contributions in Blood and Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis, with an h-index of 75. His work addresses clinical implications of platelet function in conditions like stroke, coronary disease, and heart failure, integrating experimental models and computational analysis of thrombus dynamics.

Andrews has received prestigious awards, including the 2023 Esteemed Career Award from the ISTH and Honorary Life Membership in THANZ (2021). He has held leadership roles, such as President of the Australian Vascular Biology Society (2014–2016) and Associate Editor of Blood (2019–present). His service spans national and international committees, including NHMRC panels and the Australian Red Cross Lifeblood Research Advisory Committee.

Current research projects include investigating molecular pathways in platelet production (2023–2025) and understanding thrombus formation mechanisms (2021–2024). His interdisciplinary approach bridges clinical and experimental haematology, with collaborations in structural biology, computational modeling, and clinical analysis.
