Huyen Tran

Huyen Tran is an Adjunct Clinical Professor at Monash University and holds leadership roles at Alfred Health, including Head of Haemostasis Thrombosis Unit and Director of the Haemophilia Treatment Centre. His primary affiliations include the Australian Centre for Blood Diseases (ACBD) and collaboration with The Alfred Hospital. He holds qualifications in Haematology (FRACP and FRCPA).

• Roles: Adjunct Clinical Professor, Head of Haemostasis Unit, Director of Haemophilia Centre, Chair of Australian Haemophilia Centres Directors’ Organisation (AHCDO), and Chair of the Clinical Trials Group (CTG) at THANZ.
• Education: FRACP (Royal Australasian College of Physicians) and FRCPA (Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia), both awarded in 2003.

His research focuses on haemophilia, venous thromboembolism (VTE), rare bleeding disorders, immune platelet disorders, and gene therapy. He has led over 80 clinical trials and is a principal investigator in numerous studies, including trials on concizumab, gene therapies, and novel anticoagulants. His work emphasizes improving treatment standards and patient outcomes globally.

Recent publications highlight advancements in gene therapy for haemophilia, immune thrombocytopenia management, and vaccine-induced thrombocytopenia. He has contributed to international guidelines for haemophilia and VTE management.

• Grants & Projects: Over 38 active or completed projects, including trials on CSL222 gene therapy and ATTACC-CAP antithrombotic therapy.
• Advising: Supervises 5 PhD and 1 Master’s students, with extensive training of haematology fellows (>30).

He chairs key organizations (AHCDO, THANZ CTG) and collaborates internationally, notably with the World Federation of Hemophilia. His efforts include improving care in developing regions, exemplified by the Ronald Sawers Haemophilia Centre’s Twinning Centre award (2013).
