Robbie Richardson is an Assistant Professor at Princeton University, specializing in eighteenth-century British and transatlantic literature with a focus on Indigenous Studies, material culture, and colonialism. He holds a PhD in English and Cultural Studies from McMaster University and completed a SSHRC postdoctoral fellowship at Carleton University. His interdisciplinary research examines interactions between Indigenous and European cultures, particularly through the lens of Indigenous objects in European collections.
His notable work includes The Savage and Modern Self (2018), analyzing representations of Indigenous peoples in British literature, and a forthcoming project on Indigenous artifacts in Europe. Richardson co-edits Eighteenth-Century Fiction's special issue on The Indigenous Eighteenth Century.
Research interests encompass Indigenous Studies, the history of museums, and postcolonialism. His recent articles explore material culture, such as wampum and tomahawks, and their roles in shaping British perceptions. Richardson is affiliated with the Pabineau First Nation (Mi’kmaw) in Canada and advocates for decolonizing literary studies.
