George Boulukos is a Professor of English and Affiliate Faculty in Africana Studies at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He has authored The Grateful Slave: The Emergence of Race in Eighteenth-Century British and American Culture (2008) and edited Memoirs on the Life and Travels of Thomas Hammond (2017). His current project, A Vindication of the Rights of Monsters, critiques Enlightenment human rights discourse in relation to slavery.

His research spans eighteenth-century British and American literature, transatlantic culture, race, sentimentality, and history of the novel. He also explores the cultural history of love and teaches courses on identity in comics and graphic novels.
Recent publications include analyses of Daniel Defoe, Jane Austen, and transatlantic slavery narratives. His work has been featured in journals such as Eighteenth-Century Studies and Novel: A Forum on Fiction.
